Honduras

Cultural Landscape

The country of Honduras has long dry seasons. Depending on the region it is tropical rain forest. Which enables the ability to grow fruits or plants. Mangoes, plantains, pineapples, coconuts, orange, and papaya are very common fruits that grow in Honduras’s tropical regions. The hot humid seasons cause people and their homes to be very open during the day. So a lot of the indigenous people live in the rain forest because it is easy to live in all seasons.

Culture characteristics

The Culture characteristics starts with language. The main language is Spanish but there is still indigenous languages left over. Most of the country is Roman Catholic because of the settlers. People marry others they are familiar with like a neighbor or a school pier, some one from work, and friends. Both men and women work constantly because it is hard to maintain kids and a house or home.

Food and Dining

Beans and tortillas made at home is the base of the diet. Then you add off of that like meat or chicken with some cheese and salsa. Then some fried plantains with rice and chorizo. People like to eat out side just depends, if its out side the local animals roam around under the table, and get the scraps. Many common animals that get scrap and roam are lizards, frogs, dogs, chickens, and cats.

land marks and fun facts

The name Honduras means depths in Spanish. The five stars on the flag represent the five central american countries.

Attitudes & values of the culture

Most like to great each other with a firm handshake and add off of there. Like the city people like to get close to each other, when they are talking they slightly touch the other person to let them know that they are making a statement or talking, and enjoying the moment. But most like to great each other with a firm hand shake & a quick pat on the shoulder.

Taboos of the culture & social norms

Lots of people greet each other even if they don’t know them. On Sunday’s the city people have meals with the wives parents. One of the taboos of Honduras is tossing things to people. When you toss something to a dog it is something you have no respect for or care for. So when you toss some one something you are seen as disrespectful.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
